For many years, BlueScope Steel and the Port of Port Kembla have welcomed students to their facilities, proudly demonstrating the vast Port Kembla plant and port and sharing the important part they play in “sustaining Australia”.
Inside Industry has recently revitalised its tour program and offers a variety of experiences designed for schools and students.
‘INTRODUCTION TO STEEL’ – STEELWORKS TOUR
(Suitable for Primary School students of 10 years and older – Stage 3)
Overview: Taking approximately 2.5 hours, this tour covers all areas of steel production. Students will be able to take in several spectacular parts of the steel making process.
‘SEE YOURSELF HERE’ – STEELWORKS TOUR
(suitable for High School Students – Stages 4 – 6, especially those interested in engineering, minerals and science)
Overview: Taking approximately 2.5 hours, this tour covers more technical information still visiting all areas of steel production. Students will be able to take in several spectacular parts of the steel making process.
PORT TOURS
(suitable for all School Students – with information presented to be age-appropriate)
Overview: Taking approximately 2 hours, this tour covers all areas of Port Kembla where students can visit a variety of facilities – highlights include coal, car, cruise and grain shipping, historical landmarks and spectacular views.
CUSTOM TOURS
Inside Industry is happy to customise tours suitable to the age, interest and subjects being studied, and of shorter timeframe (if required).
Example Custom Tour – School Leadership Group demonstrating to staff members potential of curriculum-aligned experiences and industry employment possibilities for students.
TRANSPORT
All tours commence from the Visitor Centre, where the location is introduced to the students and safety briefings take place. Tours use bus transport around the facilities and Inside Industry can work with your preferred bus company or, through its close relationship with Warrigal Charters, can arrange the bus transport for you (from 12 to 50pax) – picking your students up at the school and returning them.
